VIOLENCE BETWEEN GIRLS

The Challenge

In 2023, A&E at the University Hospital of Wales reported a 25% rise in admissions of young females injured through violence with other girls. This trend is echoed by schools, statutory services, and youth organisations across the UK.

Our Response
Cardiff Council’s Community Safety Team and Cardiff Youth Service commissioned Youth Safety Wales to create an intervention shaped by the voices of over 250 girls. Most identified small, focused group sessions in school as the best way to address the issue.

The Programme: #CONNECT
Our six-module curriculum tackles the root causes of violence through relational inclusion. It builds self-awareness, emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, and positive decision-making.

Modules include:

  1. Violence & Consequences

  2. Digital Dilemmas

  3. Mate Crime, Exploitation & Healthy Relationships

  4. Emotional Health & Well-being

  5. Positive Me

  6. My Future

Impact
We measure success through reduced violence, better attendance, and improved awareness. The pilot phase will refine the model for wider rollout.
